This original print technique is known as collagraph. The plate is a piece of masonite. Acrylic modeling paste media were applied with a palette knife and heavy brush strokes to create the texture of the
waves. Fabrics and papers were impressed into the media to create different textured surfaces. Gloss medium and Matte medium were applied to achieve a range
of tones. The plate is wiped by hand, and printed on damp
paper on an etching press.
This view of waves breaking over rocks was taken from a stretch of the La Jolla Coastline near the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.
